File Shredder - Permanently Erase Files App Reviews
Perfect in the dock
This little app is very handy to securely get rid of file. Love it very much.
Fantastic to see and use - specially since Apple has removed the option (mainly so those who have Solid State Drives do not ruin the drive) as secure delete will harm the life expectancy of machines with SSDs. Well - I still need it. And am greatful that this company provides a free alternative. I have tried a few other free options. Yet this one is up-to-date, simple to use - easy to understand and works like a charm. Congrats Team and thx.
It seems to shred. 1. Every file requires manual confirmation before and after the shred process. First Drag the file to icon, second action - click ok to approve file for shreding and then third action - click another ok when it finishes. (to aknnowledge that it did shred?) Weird and needless. 2. It doesn’t have progress indicator except you clicking twice for each item to shred and approve , shred ok, finish ok…. but thanks for the app, now I know what not to do when writing app.
Normally when one opens a new finder window, they see their All My Files; Documents; Applications; etc. on the left side of the window. Immediately after I downloaded this app, those all vanished and instead I found something that, when I tried to access it, it told me it was an online server and I needed a password. After about an hour, another one showed up. As it has now been two days since I downloaded this app, the servers have now vanished, and instead I have a blank bar on the left hand side. The only way for me to access any of my documents or applications is by using the search function and digging through that way. I’ll be deleting the app shortly to see if that fixes things.
I dragged a 3GB file to the app for secure deletion and my computer slowed down to a trickle. I managed to open activity monitor and noticed this app was taking 2.5GB of R.A.M.
If you are shredding ‘on the go’ a particular set of a few documents, it seems to work well. But for large batches for hundreds of files totaling tens of GB, it frequently (50% of the time) gets hung up on something that causes it to quit.
Works well
Nice free app that works well. There are some things I might change, but really nice to have this free secure delete utility.
I’ve been looking for apps to replace MacKeeper. Works great. If you’re deleting a large file be prepained for it to take awhile at 35 passes. I wished this app had a ”Time Left” indicator.
Good App Needs Time Remaining Indica
Good app but would be better with a “time remaining” indicator
